EWING MESSAGES: Help I am stuck and am reposting. I have David Ewing of (supposedly Somerset or Fayette Co.PA) born Sept.29,1772 died November 12, 1847, and came from Ireland, he married a Ruth Brown of the VA.Maryland area, date unknown, her dates b. Se[t 17, 1780,D.May 29,1863. We cannot go back any further, but we do know that they lived in PA and were in Knoxville, Illinois by 1835. We have copies of the original Church Records in Knoxville, Ill. showing their children's names and tombstone pictures that correspond to these original church records. Children were Alexander B. 3/6/1806 in Uniontown?PA. married 1st to Jane Campbell who died by 1866.He married a Mrs. Antoinette Proseus from New York shortly thereafter, which leads us to believe that the family had to have lived in Orange County New York at sometime or another, because Alexander's son John Henry also married Cornelia Young Weeks from Newburgh, Orange Co. New York in 1860. David's other children that we know of were George M. Ewing who married an Elizabeth M.?? George M. was born May 21, 1818 in PA? and died January 28, 1879. He and his wife are both buried along with their parents and Alexander and Jane in Knoxville, Illinois. The third child was Margaret, born in 1809 in PA? who married William H. Whitton of New York, giving us more evidence that at sometime or another they lived in and around Orange Co. both Margaret and William are buried in Knoxville, Illiois. Alexander's children were Mary Ewing who married Horatio N. Keightley of New York January 25, 1852. Mary was born January 25, 1831 supposedly in PA? She and her husband and child are buried in Knoxville, Illinois. John Henry Ewing born September 23, 1832 PA? married Cornelia Young Weeks born in Newburgh, New York on October 29, 1839. Anna M. Ewing 3rd child of Alexander, married William N. Phillips a native of Orange Co.New York and was descended from Wlliam and Sarah (Everston) Phillips. William served in the Was or 1812-1814 and held a colonelcy in the militia in the State of New York for many years. William and his descendants were from the family of Reverend George Phillips who came with Govenor Winthrop from England, and originally settled in Watertown, Mass. Sarah Everston his wife was from Orange Co. New York. Both William N.Phillips and Anna are buried in Knoxville, Illinois. The Weeks family have been legally documented as living in Dutchess Co, and Orange County and are historically dated back to 1400's in Devon, England. David's son George M. Ewing married Elizabeth M.????, He was born may 21, 1818, and died in Knoxville January 28, 1878. His wife Elizabeth was born january 10, 1826 and died June 2, 1904. They are also buried in Knoxville. John Henry Ewing and Cornelia had 3 children. William Phillip, Albert Burdett, and Charles W.Ewing, all born in Knoxville, and recorded in the Church records of the Presbyterian Church. They had 9 children one of whom was Emma Ruth Ewing, born in 1851. I have recently asked the secretary of the Church in KNoxville, to go back and check the records of the 1835 -1900 records, and she has Price written by her name. They were dis-missed to Williams??? and that is all that can be read the records are so old!!There is also an Arthur? Price listed in the records. Other family names concretely related are Foutch or Fouche of Illinois,T.B.Elsberry, O.E.Ferry, Franklin Gillespie of Kansas, Horn,. Margaret Campbell was Jane Campbell's sister, prior resident of PA, and of Somerset Co. and we have a reproduced Obit from Allen Co. Public Library in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. If anyone can help us, we would sincerely like to know which of the Ewing members we are related to. We know they had to have been in New York in Orange County for sometime, because of the number of relatives that went West with them to Illinois. Please respond to us at Susan Ewing Wolfe sewtx@the-cia.net I have 9 generations forward, and many Generations backwards, on the Weeks, and Rhea/Campbell side of the family. I have done many lookups for people already with success, but at this time, I am a new Grandmother and am very busy.I will print out your request on Rhea/Campbell and Weeks and search as time permits. If you know anything of my David and Ruth Brown I would appreciate some help. We have exhausted all resources. Thank you, Susan Ewing Wolfe

EWING MESSAGES: My Ewing search begins with ALEXANDER EWING (and his wife, 'Miss' Sullivan', whom he married in Cork, Ireland) who came to America about 1755. He was Adjutant of a British regiment under General Braddock and took part in expeditions against Fort Du Quesne. He later became a Baptist clergyman. His line located in ADDISON Co., Whiting, VT and also RUTLAND Co., Pittsford, VT. Some of these lines married into COOLEY, DOOLITTLE, and SUTHERLAND, TUTTLE, & HOLBROOK lines. Some of these people moved to Ontario, Canada and some were found in Northumberland Co., Haldiman Twp.,Ontario. I believe by 1810-1820, some returned to US. My line is of JOHN, Sr., b. about 1789. He and his family located by 1840 in Chautauqua Co., Villenova or Hamlet, NY. John, Jr., b. about 1811-1815, moved to Ohio. Lorain and Erie Counties. Later to and remaining in Paulding Co., OH. Will share all I have if you relate to these lines.

EWING MESSAGES: I have just this week,November 23rd, 1999, received information that concretely connects my 30 years of research to the Clan Ewing of Scotland by Elbert William R. Ewing, published by Cobden Publishing Co. Ballston, VA. I received this information from the Allen County Library, Ft. Wayne, Inidian with whom I have been working with for nearly a year. My lineage traces from Alexander Ewing, the "youngest of the Balloch Ewings, and was bor about 1722. He marrried, first, Janet, a daughter of John Ewing of Noblistown, Scotland; and, second, Rachel Marshall and had David and three other boys." "This Alex. was a younger son of Alexander of Balloch, born about 1692, the younger son of Alex. of Balloch, born about 1660". David's Bible"states that he left Ireland and went to America November 1, 1792." Reaching America he visited relatives in Maryland, then settled in Uniontown and married Ruth Brown of Virginia-Maryland in 1797". Her father owned and leased the land on wheich Brownsville is built."Ruth's sister, Elizabeth, married a Cox and their daughter married General Thomas Ewing, on of the descendants of the Hon. Thomas Ewing". "Elizabeth, another of David Ewing's children, married Wm. Whitton. Many of this David Ewing's descendants live in California and elsewhere". I have pictures of this David and Ruth's tombstone in Knoxville, Illinois and copies of the original Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Illinois, showing entries of David and his family, and fairly intense documentation of 8 generations of Ewings forward. Am I at the correct web-site?? Can you help me in any way?? I am completely handicapped, and coming up with the money for even $20.00 right now is difficult. I can send medical records of proof if needed. I am searching to link up with some of the Ewings on the Internet, and would like to contribute all that I can. I have a scanner that I can use to send proof of records, or zerox them for proof of records. We have David Ewing's grandson's rifle that was made in Uniontown,PA and documented by the gunsmither that made the rifle. It is locked in a vault in Atchinson, Kansas where my cousin lives. I also have numerous Bible records, pictures, cemetery records, pictures linking to the Weeks family of England back to 1425, and the Campbell- Rhea family back to 1400's in Scotland. Three of the Rhea children married the Foutch or Fouche family, which was my Great Grandmother's side of the Family. I guess I want to know if I am at the correct web-site, or if I am not, can you help guide me in the correct place??? Thank you very much. Please contact me at sewtx@the-cia.net , Susan Ewing Wolfe. Thank You....

They went on to Lawrence County Alabama and then to Itawamba County Mississippi by 1834. He and his family stayed there until 1868 when his son William and other siblings came to Cleburne, Johnson County Texas. I am a decendent of William Mose Ewing. I would like to correspond with someone who had Ewings in Blount in the early 1800's to try to find out who John Mose's cousins and siblings might be.

EWING MESSAGES: I am looking for information about my ggggg grandfather, Alexander Ewing who was a Scot by birth and a graduate of the University of Edinburgh. He entered the British army soon after his graduationand received an adjutant's commission in a regiment stationed at Cork, Ireland. There he married a Miss Sullivan and remained at that post for several years; and, there a number of his children were born including my gggg grandfather James (b. 1749). Early in 1755, his regiment was ordered to the coloniesunder the command of Gen. Braddock. Alexander took his family with him. Arriving in America, he left them on the coast and went with his regiment to Fort Cumberland. He shared in the hardships of the unfortunate expedition against Fort du Quesne. On the retreat after the disaster of 9 July, a circumstance occurred which changed the whole course of his life. At a safe distance, the army halted to bury the dead. The Adjutant was asked to act as chaplain. He removed his sword to perform the service and declared that he would never put it on again. He and his brother, a captain in the same regiment, got their discharge. The captain settled in Philadelphia as a lawyer; the Adjutant in Massachusetts as a Baptist clergyman. He had 7 sons and 1 daughter. I know of 3-- Dr.Alexander, John, and James,Esq. I am descended from James who settled in Pittsford, Vt. in 1777. Dr. Alexander settled in Piisford in 1792 as one of the earliest physicians. I need to know about Alexander's Scottish life.

Father was naval officer born in Canada, son of Oscar Dane Ewing and Elizabeth Rachael Newman. Much of family resided in Louisiana in this century. Have made great presumption that since somebody, at some point, decided to keep "Sherman" as middle name, probably some connection honoring that heritage involvement which might reach back to Thomas Ewing, Jr., and Ellen (Eleanor). Appreciate any connections any one may have! Thanks! Jess Snyder

EWING MESSAGES: Is there anyone out there researching Ewings of Highland county? I have James Ewing and two women, one is Hester Mercer, and I have a marriage record for them for 1843 as a marriage date. The other is Melinda, who was born in the same year as Hester,1822, in the same state as both Jameses, and Hester, Virginia. She is shown with James Ewing in the 1850 Census.. Either one James Ewing was married to two women at the same time, there are two James Ewings in the same county and area, Or Hester is also Melinda. The kids are very close in ages and the names are the same. I am totally confused. The James married to Melinda died in the same year as the James married to Hester. James and Hester had David, William, Rebecca, and J.M. Ewing. James and Melinda had David, William, Rebecca, Jackson M., and Margaret. This was on the 1850 Census. If anyone can help me untangle this I would love it!!!! Evidently in the 1870 census there is a Jackson Ewing living with Hester Ewing!!!! in Miami twp, Greene County, Ohio. I really feel that these are the same families, but the mothers name was misrepresented on the census. For all I know she could be Hester Melinda Mercer or something like that. It stretches me a little to believe that there are two James Ewings in the same county and twp., born in the same year, married to two women who were born in the same year, and all four born in the same state, married in the same state and twp in the same year!!??

EWING MESSAGES: The above url contains photo's of 1 Ewing family. David Miller Ewing (b.1845 in Ohio) son of James Ewing and Hester Mercer. I am looking for the ancestors of James Ewing and Hester Mercer. Hester was born just outside Richmond in Virginia, or Greenbriar County in 1822. James was also born in Virginia but date or place is unknown. James moved to Ohio and married Hester in Highland County in 1843. Where he lived after that is also unknown. The rest of his relatives remained in southern Ohio in Clinton, Adams, and Greene County, and one of his sons, David, My G G Grandfather, lived in Xenia, Greene County Ohio until 1870's. Does this family sound familiar? The names Miller and Emerson also cross in this family, and considering the naming habits they are probably the names of the maternal mothers of James or Hester. Can you help Me? This one is a real dead end.

EWING MESSAGES: I am looking for anyone with information on a Mark Ewing. Mark is alive and is around age 50. He is a retired Army Colonel and currently works in the Pentagon. I worked for Mark at one time and he was very reticent to let out any details of his heritage or family life. He did state once that he "...was raised by the world's foremost expert on the polygraph...." It seems to me that I have a vague impression that he came from the upper Midwest. Mark appeared to be a truly driven human being that was uncomfortable around people but very comfortable with technology. He had a passion for organization and neatness, running off the extreme end. Mark was very hard to deal with because he had an almost blind obsession to demonstrate that he was the smartest person in any audience in which he happened to find himself. Indeed he is very, very intelligent but the necessity to prove it seriously negated its effectiveness. In any event, I am looking for whatever information might be available on this enigmatic figure. Incidentally, I think his middle initial was "W.", he kept a copy of a book in his office called "The Ewing Family Diaries" and he had at least several brothers if not more.

EWING MESSAGES: Hello! Searching for information on William Ewing, who was probably born in Prince Edward Co., VA, and who married Florence Porter, daughter of John and Mary Anthony Porter. Sometime before 1796, William, his wife (Florence), his brother Samuel, and John and William Porter moved to Kentucky. they probably ended up in Logan Co., because William was the sheriff of Logan Co. in 1796, and his will was presented in court there in November 1799. It is a guess that he was a grandson of Samuel, brother of Nathanial, James, Alexander, et. al., or possibly a son or grandson of James.
